Hemorrhoid drugs include creams and suppositories that ease the pain or help the veins retain their original position and size. Remedies include nitric acid (for violent pains or bleeding hemorrhoids), sublimed sulfur (especially when redness present in the area, accompanied itching and burning sensations), and graphites (also known as Black Lead). Sometimes special techniques must be applied in order to treat the disease: rubber band ligation (use of elastic bands to cut off the hemorrhoid’s blood supply), galvanic electrotherapy (desiccation by electric current), sclerotherapy (uses injections), laser, infrared or electrically induced coagulation, enema, stapled hemorrhoidectomy or Doppler Guided Hemorrhoid Artery Ligation.
