Lovastatin (Mevacor) is HMG-CoA reductase inhibitor, also known as a statin. It is used along with a proper diet to help lower triglycerides and cholesterol in the blood. Reducing cholesterol and triglycerides help prevent strokes and heart attacks. This drug may infrequently cause muscle pain, tenderness, or weakness.
