Osteoporosis is a bone disease that drastically increases the risks of fractures, so treating it is essential. There are several types of osteoporosis drugs available. Bisphosphanates for example are osteoporosis drugs used mainly for treating of the disease in the case of postmenopausal women. Usually taken orally at a rate of once or twice a day, they include side effects like stomach aches and esophagus irritations, as they are quite hard to absorb in the organism. Calcitonin is another osteoporosis drug that acts by slowing down the bone loss and diminishing the pain caused by the disease. It comes in the form of nasal spray or injection. Other alternatives are teriparatide (Forteo) or strontium ranelate.
