Hypothyroidism drugs are represented by hormone medications used to treat the illness. Levorotatory forms of thyroxin (L-T4) and triiodothyronine (L-T3) are used in this case. They can either be of synthetic or natural and they are the same with hormones produced by a healthy thyroid gland. Prescription is required and besides the daily doses, periodical blood level monitoring might be done in order to check the progress. Treatment with these hypothyroidism drugs has three different types of protocols: it may be T4 only (standard treatment), T4 andT3 in combination and desiccated thyroid extract treatment, which uses an animal based extract (usually of porcine source).
